There have been a lot of studies revealing a strong link between smoking and tooth cavities. Among the few ill effects of smoking to the physiological health are increasing the chances of heart attack or stoke, higher chances of acquiring lung cancer, and higher chances of premature babies and birth defects. In terms of oral health, the ill effects of smoking directly affects the teeth, gums, jawbone, and mouth tissues.

Below are what smoking can generously give you:

• Smoking gives you tooth stain

Smoking causes tooth stains or overall tooth discoloration. If you will not be smoking, imagine how much money you will save for reducing or removing tooth stain and discoloration.

• Smoking gives you bad breath

Researches proved that smoking is one of the main causes of halitosis. Aside from experiencing dry mouth, you will also get “smoker’s breath” as the tar and nicotine settle in your oral cavity. Gum disease, which is packaged along the smoking habit also causes bad breath.

Smoking causes tooth decay

Smoking actually increases the amount of dental plaque residing in your mouth. As the plaque increases, the level of possibility of dental tar tar leading to tooth decay increases as well.

Smoking causes gum disease

It has been proven many times by science that tobacco interferes with the function of gum tissue cells. Once damaged, gums separate from the bone, leaving them open to infection and sometimes lead to advanced periodontal disease.

• Smoking gives you tooth loss

As you reach advanced periodontitis, you will eventually lead to bone deterioration and tooth loss.

• Smoking gives you oral cancer

Smoking greatly increases your chances of getting oral cancer and statistical studies revealed that most people who are suffering from it are smokers, which fully emphasize the big connection between the two. Oral cancer has been coined as a significant by-product of smoking.

Furthermore, researchers found the direct correlation between the number of cigarettes smoked and gum disease. This means those who smoked less than half a pack per day were three times likely to suffer from advanced periodontal disease and those who smoked more than a pack and a half per day were six times at risk.

With that said, smoking obviously endangers one’s health, physiologically and orally. Based on the length of period you have been smoking in your life, you can possibly expect the adverse consequences to your health and to the people living with you since the effects extend to them. Sad to say that smokers tend to be careless with their oral health as well as with the people around them.

What lies behind a beautiful smile? Good dental care, of course! Even though we may not all be born with flashy Hollywood smiles, it is important for everyone to properly clean their teeth and keep our mouths fresh. The health and cleanliness of your teeth are what is truly important, it really doesn’t matter if you have spaces between your teeth, uneven incisors or canines that are a little off. Clean, stain-free teeth can turn any smile into a starry smile.

Our focus tends to shift from a person’s eyes to their mouth when we are talking with them up close. We are naturally wired for such automatic observation. That is the reason why, we right away notice if something is caught between person’s teeth or if they have plaque. Moreover, poor dental hygiene causes bacteria that produce acid, which results in embarrassing, bad breath.

Dental health can be achieved with three simple steps: brush, floss, and regular gum-care.

We all know just how important it is to properly clean and care for your teeth, and you might want to consider using state-of-the-art technology, such as Philips Sonicare Toothbrush, to get the best results possible. Let’s revisit the 3 basics of healthy teeth.

Brushing is necessary in the morning and before bed time. All it takes is 2 to 2 1/2 minutes per brushing routine. Remember to brush gently and firmly. Scrubbing hard will only harm the protective enamel on your teeth. Vertical movement of the toothbrush is actually better than brushing in a circular motion. This is because circular movements tend to irritate gums by brushing against them- and not away from. For example, the proper way to brush the lower teeth is to start from below the gum line and the brush stroke should go from bottom to top – and of course, it’s just the opposite for the upper teeth (starting from above the gum line with a downward motion).

Flossing is an important part of oral hygiene. Regular flossing protects your mouth against decay and odor-causing bacteria. Not only should you floss at before going to bed, it’s also important to floss between meals. Waxed floss is generally the easiest to use, especially for those who have tight spaces between their teeth.

If you have limited dexterity and can only use one hand for the flossing process, chose floss that comes with a rechargeable holder stick.

You can detect early signs of gum disease if you closely monitor the condition of your gums. It is all too easy for gingivitis and gum disease to go unnoticed for far too long, and that can lead to periodontis or other serious and costly problems. Make an appointment with your dentist if your gums are swollen, oozing blood or your teeth appear to be loosened in their sockets. Of course, instead of having to manage serious dental issues after they occur, it much smarter and easier to simply prevent them to begin with. Good dental habits are not only good for decay-free teeth laced with fresh breath, but they also make financial sense by keeping dental visits (and bills) low. Teeth serve a precious function, that of cutting up and crushing our food before swallowing.

Moreover, we couldn’t swallow our food whole! Can you imagine swallowing an entire apple or sandwich? Our teeth makes food intake easy and painless. Give your teeth the importance they deserve. Strive to follow the basic three rules of oral healthcare every day.

In this day and age, beauty really does matter and beauty often denotes health. The same thoughts can be applied to the gums. If you want beautiful gums, then they will obviously need to be healthy. How do you know if your gums are healthy? Well, really, that does not require a scientist – You should confirm with your dentist but here are the basics: You can determine this by examining them yourself. When you look at your gums in the mirror, do they look pink and not inflamed? Are your teeth clean and visually healthy? Do you make sure you get the plaque off of them every day? If so, then chances are, you have healthy gums. Here are some signs of unhealthy gums to watch out for.

Catching gum disease at an early stage is a great idea. At an early stage of gum disease, you will have tender, red and swollen gums. When you brush them with a toothbrush or floss them, they will bleed easily. You see, healthy gums never bleed when you regularly floss and brush them. At this stage, a HydroFloss might be helpful to you.

Generally speaking, gingivitis is not painful, so you may not notice any symptoms are present, which means you will not often catch it early for treatment. If you do not get this disease treated, then it is only going to progress forward. With gum disease often comes bad breath, try aktiv k-12 to defeat that.

When you have advanced gum disease, you may have bad breath no matter what you do. You could even end up losing your teeth. You may also have gums pulling away or receding from your teeth. Appropriate dental care is always important.

You are very concerned about your halitosis or bad breath. Maybe, you have tonsil stones in your throat. Yes, that’s right. These stones are whitish lumps that can form in your tonsils and sometimes, you get to cough up all the time because of their presence in your throat. They are actually made of mucous and dead cells plus food particles. If you can’t get rid of them out in time, they will make your breath smell so bad that you will have a problem with it in the coming days. That means to say that you should brush your teeth regularly to get rid of bad breath and also tonsil stones. But there are other people who will have difficulty getting rid of them so they resort to some tonsil stones remedies that are either provided by their doctor or some natural and safe supplements that are available online and to supplement the supplement or the drug prescribed by your doctor, see to it that you get the perfect oral hygiene everyday.

But for most people, remedies from their doctors or dentists is not enough especially those who are aware about the side effects that drugs can bring. So, what do they do? They will try to find a natural way in removing tonsil stones for good without putting themselves or their health in the most compromising position. So, what are the best remedies for tonsil stones?

For most people, if they want a natural remedy, they would try to go for natural body detoxification. They know very well that tonsil stones as well as other health problems are caused by toxins inside the body. Once these toxins are eliminated, tonsil stones and bad breath can be eliminated, too. Others will try to find some product that can get rid of tonsil stones causes and symptoms but if they can’t find something to detoxify the body, all kinds of medications are worthless. They need something to get down to the root cause of the problem to eliminate all of these maladies.

The infection is usually associated with agony and pain. At the early stage of the ailment, minute lumps appear that you can barely see by your naked eye. Other than your lips, cold sores are also most likely to appear inside the mouth and on or inside the nose. Basically, cold sores can be seen appearing on various body parts and even in the genital area. But for the case of genital herpes, the Herpes simplex virus type 2 is often responsible.

These days, a huge number of persons worldwide are already infected by the said virus. Its reason is simply because the virus is incurable thus, staying inside the person’s body for the rest of his life. The virus is also widely spread as an infected person doesn’t always show its signs and symptoms such as the red blisters. If ever you already have one, it is more likely that you have acquired the virus during your childhood years. Most cases are like this where a sufferer contracts the virus from close contact or getting kissed by an infected person.

As soon as the virus lands on your skin, HSV-1 makes its way through a group of nerve cells called ganglion. It is in such nerve cells that the virus stays permanently and waits for its awakening. Sometimes, the virus only sleeps permanently without any reactivation. This explains why there are some people who are infected with the virus who don’t necessarily have cold sores.

The main cause of the virus’ reactivation remains to be uncertain. But such reactivation is assumed to be caused by a lot of factors. And some of these factors are fever, sunlight, cold weather, hormonal changes, tooth extractions, certain foods and drugs, and other types of infections. In general, the cause of cold sores is unpredictable and the person doesn’t necessarily have to have colds to contract cold sore.

The virus that triggers cold sores is easily spread in a lot of ways. If you happen to be infected with such virus, infecting other persons is easy and fast. All it takes is skin to skin contact or when a person gets in contact with oral secretions like through kissing. This is highly possible as the virus gets easily transmitted even if the infected person doesn’t show any sores. The virus also gets spread so easily through sharing a cup or eating utensils, or lip balm and lipstick with the infected individual.

For the case of genital herpes, virus is more likely to enter in the genital area among couples especially during oral sex. The cold sore blister on an infected person can also get worse when he or she touches the blisters and then touches other parts of the body especially on parts where there is a cut on it.

Everyone is pretty vulnerable of contracting HSV-1 that causes cold sores. This is highly possible through various ways. Once infected, the best thing to do is not to allow yourself from touching, pinching, and squeezing the blisters. If not avoided, bear in mind that it is best not to touch other parts of your body.
